Another reason I like painting with knives is that you can easily mix the paint on the painting. On this piece I caressed the paint to flat little dabs. Ridding the shape waved edges are important too, to help blend the tones and colors to create volume. I had never used knives in this way so I indulged in it's power. This painting took me about 5 to 7 hours in a days work. Speaking of which I've been painting my ass off for about 85 hours a week. It's paying off in technical improvement. Though I tend to fall back on everything else. Oh well. I've been laughing my ass off in fits, the music my art creates. I think I might be regressing in things but progressing in others. I'm always an optimist so things tend to even out.
I added 4 iron nails to the painting to add relate to the wooded door in the background. I'm not sure where they were going but I was in and experimenting mood and trusted my instincts. This style seemed new so I will try and make it even younger. So far I built up the paint to the nails mixing it to earthy colors. Using some tar jells and phosphorescent fabric paint. Oh yeah and theres a stag beetle like glob in the top left corner that was naturally formed and naturally kept.I wanted to some how turn the painting upsidedown then add drips that formed the painting. For now I'll just finish making a bridge like structure for the nails. Then spaghetti it.(my original intentions were to enlarge or fit the dabs to the different masses and shapes, mixing and creating value in one swoop. I was able to do just that though it was very time consuming. But this seems to work and makes me feel like an old master.)
You are so damn good at some aspects of art, and at some you are hugely lacking. Your technical skills are incredible and evolving faster than a virus. But you don't yet have a message with spirit. I think one of these days some injustice or suffering in the world will touch your heart, and then you can truly use art as the weapon it can be - a force to be reckoned with that can transform culture, society, and the minds of others. I say keep pushing your art, yet love others more; attune to your heart. Then your art can begin to really speak to the world with wisdom and conviction, through the force of your genius that you may be on the verge of discovering.

Yeah your right man but I donno maybe that's my spirit, being technical and being a passive observer. The witness. Not taking sides with anything. Yeah man I have found my destiny and maybe I can show people theres somehow, through that or I donno. I am kinda loving others more by painting street scenes and seeing the truth in life or reflecting on it in my own interpretation in various dimensions. I know I'm lacking content but I'll soon get down to that organic unity stuff. You know to be honest I don't really care to do that stuff anymore I just like developing new images. All that other stuff is a wast of time. I guess that's a limitation. Hey and man if power gets what it wants always then there's nothing that we can do so why try. I do care man but I'm powerless, poor, and unhealthy. Perhaps I should get rid of self interest and become a prophet and stop painting self portraits.

The Witness is a very interesting phenomenon, something I have been dealing with recently. The deeper we inquire into ourselves, we begin to realize that fundamentally our consciousness is nothing other than just a pure witness, seeing everything happening. There is nothing happening, actually, we are just seeing, and all the happenings are illusion. So why even bother engaging the world? I am finding that what can overcome that temptation to recede out of the world into pure Witness is an overwhelming experience of the suffering of others. Compassion re-engages the Witness with the world. Once we find both the freedom of the Witness and the desire to heal others, then, well, we are turned inside out. We exteriorize Spirit. You may be poor and unhealthy, but you have immense power with your artistic/creative skills. You are definitely not weak, you have immense power.

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
